The Partners page on the Connections site

What do the smallest known particles and the structure and origins of the entire universe have in common? “Connections: From Quarks to the Cosmos” is dedicated to bringing together particle physics, nuclear physics, gravitational physics, and astrophysics to answer some of the biggest questions: where it all came from, why it took the shape it did, and what its future might bring.

Partners’ Pages

This research is done by a loose affiliation of many researchers. Major support for them comes from the Department of Energy, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and the National Science Foundation. Here you’ll find some of the most important projects that each one supports, as well as administrative information on the still-evolving relationship of the three agencies.

NASA

The NASA Structure and Evolution of the Universe (SEU) enterprise, and in particular its Education and Public Outreach (EPO) function, has many Web pages, including:
  • Cosmic Journeys (under construction)
  • The SEU homepage and in particular its Science and Technology Roadmaps.
  • Imagine the Universe (ages 14-up) and StarChild (oriented toward younger students).
  • The NASA-funded site called Origins at the Space Telescope Science Institute.
  • What does the universe look like in gamma-ray "light"? The Sonoma State page about the Gamma-ray Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST), a program jointly sponsored by NASA and DOE, has all kinds of general-interest as well as technical information on some of the most unimaginably energetic events in the known universe, plus an "Ask A Scientist" feature.

This type of research is one of the science drivers for the strategy of the National Science Foundation's Division of Astronomical Sciences.
